After my first introduction to Montreal through my driver, my next step was to explore the city on foot. I started walking in Old Montreal (Vieux Montreal). Literally five minutes from my hotel is Place d & amp; Armes, one of Montreal's most historic places, emphasized by the impressive Notre Dame Cathedral. The main square of Montreal, the city hall of Montreal, the many restaurants, Place Jacques Cartier surrounded by historic buildings, the city hall of Montreal, towards the beauty of the raised raised second imperial architecture, I managed with rue de Notre Dame overlooking the port area of the St. Lawrence River.
My own European heritage always appreciates historical architecture. The layout of Old Montreal with a narrow cobblestone street makes the city in Europe remarkably remarkable. It is the best place for a walk. In the center of the plaza there live a large number of sellers selling flowers, souvenirs and 10 minute portrait artists. Thousands of local residents and tourists enjoy this atmosphere. Jacques Cartier Square was very busy and the restaurant's terrace was full of people.
I headed east to Marché Bonsecours which is the public market in Montreal. After being shut down in 1960 due to the spread of supermarkets, there are offices and exhibition halls of municipalities in market houses, and since 1996 various merchants selling arts and crafts have appeared. Late night sun reflected on the market silver dome, mood was set for luxurious night.
I was walking along St - Paul Street. In a narrow cobblestone street there are several restaurants, clothing stores, souvenir shops and galleries, one of the oldest streets in Montreal. Modavie Restaurant is a two-storey restaurant in a historic building on the corner of St-Laurent and St-Paul Streets. In order to know more about this restaurant I got the opportunity to spend time with Modavie's manager Christine.
Modavie is one of several restaurants and hotels owned by the Antonopoulos family. Tony and Costa Antonopolous have won numerous awards for contributing to the activation of Old Montreal. The portfolio of hospitality facilities includes Restaurants de Vieux Port, Hotel Nelligan, Hotel Place du Arms, Auberge du Vieux-Paul and Gallianus. In reality there are two Modavie locations: one in old Montreal and one in St. It is in South Shore on the south side of Lawrence River.
Modellie of the building dates back to the 1890s and was initially an inn that houses seafarers primarily. Christine explains that the restaurant's name comes from 'mode · dee · be ·' or 'lifestyle'. The building is just a short walk from Montreal's waterfront and the science center in Montreal is just south of King Edward Pier. Circque de Soleil is also in the harbor and will be back next summer. They are currently doing a new show in Las Vegas: The Beatles' show 'Love'.
Mr. Christine explains that Modavie is actually watching the exhibits of many fireworks displays launched in the port area of Montreal. I saw good luck with one of the best tables on the house: the second floor corner table on the south side and the east side view, a favorite table for the wedding proposal obviously.
The interior is Mediterranean style, with many trees and warm atmosphere. When you come to a restaurant downstairs, you are facing the right table and a bar with tables at the back of the restaurant. Christine introduced over 1,000 wine cellars throughout the world, including wines from Italy, California and France. Since Ontario, Modavie features one Canadian wine.
Mr. Christine reflects the welcoming atmosphere of Modavie in consideration of the details of the staff and pays close attention so that the customer feels comfortable. She has been in Modavie for seven years now. She came out several times, but she will be back. She originally started as a waitress at the age of 18 and eleven years later, she worked until she became a 100 seat restaurant manager. Christine explained to me that the menu had changed over the years, and Modavie originally offered sandwiches and pizzas. As time passed, I liked it a little, more choices were added, tablecloths appeared.
What I was attracted by Modavie was that it features live jazz music everyday. While I was there, the Greg Creighton trio was founded and am entertaining the growing audience after about 7:30. As the night went on, people continued to flow from the street, and the restaurant became full.
When I chatted with Christine I decided to start eating with a warm goat cheese salad with vinegrettes of almonds, peaches and mangoes, with the opportunity to carefully read a wide range of menus. Delicious course of ravioli filled with potatoberry mushrooms with tomato and mascarpone sauce. Christine surprised me in a special desert. Crepe is always one of my favorite desserts. This lovely knife certainly envelops the sweet fabric ball.
Because it is located in such a major area, Modavie has a wide range of customers. In the summer, Canadians, Americans, Mexican people all over the country frequently visit. Fall is a very popular season for European travelers, and during the winter there are many conventioners and travelers from Germany. The daytime crowd mainly consists of lawyers who came here for a delicious lunch from a nearby court. Modabi has a different lunch menu everyday. It is reasonable C $ 15.95 including soup or salad, main dish and coffee.
Modavie is a beautiful place with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. As my pack agenda included the Montreal ghost tour, there was no time to sit down and relax, but Modavie was a great introduction of meals in Old Montreal.
